Dr. Katherine Schneider (emeritus) has established the Access Eau Claire Fund through the Eau Claire Community Foundation. The purpose of the fund is to provide financial support for Chippewa Valley nonprofit organizations to initiate efforts toward the full inclusion of people with disabilities in their leadership, programs and services. Schneider, a resident of Eau Claire for more than 20 years, has given numerous talks to local groups about access issues and living as a blind woman. She asserts that people with disabilities need to be involved on boards of nonprofits and city and county agencies so that access issues will be raised as programs and services are designed.
